Split a PDF

Break a PDF into smaller files, or keep only the pages you need.

or drop it here · paste with Ctrl+V

What it does

Turn one PDF into several. Save every page as its own file, cut the document into equal parts, type the exact ranges you want, or extract a few pages into a new PDF. The pages are copied as they are, so text stays sharp and selectable, and the original file is left untouched. It all happens in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.

How to use it

  1. Click “Choose a PDF file”, drop a PDF onto the box, or paste with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac).
  2. Pick how to split it: every page on its own, every few pages, custom ranges like 1-3, 4-8, or just the pages you want to keep.
  3. Check the list of files it will create, then click “Split PDF”.
  4. Download each new PDF, or all of them together as a ZIP.

Common uses

  • Sending only the signed page of a contract instead of the whole document
  • Breaking a scanned book or long report into chapters
  • Getting a large PDF under an upload limit by sending it in parts
  • Pulling one statement or invoice out of a yearly bundle

Tips

  • Page numbers here are the PDF’s own page order, which may differ from the numbers printed on the pages (for example when a document starts with a cover and a contents page).
  • Type “9-” to mean page 9 to the end, so you don’t need to know the exact page count.
  • With “Extract pages”, the order you type is the order you get. “5, 1-2” puts page 5 first.
  • To combine pages from different PDFs, extract what you need from each one, then join the results with Merge PDF.

Questions

Is my original PDF changed?

No. The tool reads your file and creates new PDFs from it. The original stays exactly as it was on your device.

Why is each part almost as big as the original?

Fonts and images used on several pages are stored once in a PDF. Each new file needs its own copy of the ones it uses, so the parts together can add up to more than the original.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Pages of an encrypted PDF can’t be copied without the password, so open it in your PDF app, save or print an unprotected copy, and split that.

How many pages can it handle?

Files up to 100 MB, with hundreds of pages, work fine on a computer. On a phone, very large files may run out of memory; splitting into fewer parts helps.
