What it does

Tips

  • If you only need a smaller file, keep it as JPG and compress it instead.
  • Converting keeps the background. For a transparent round image, use Crop Image with the Circle option.

Questions

Will converting to PNG improve the quality?

No. PNG prevents further quality loss, but it can’t bring back detail that JPG compression already removed.

Why is the PNG bigger than my JPG?

PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, so photos are often several times larger as PNG. That’s expected.

Does it make the background transparent?

No. The image keeps its original background. Removing a background needs a dedicated background-removal tool.
